Testing A&E Tracker from the Trial Version
- Download the installer and install it per instructions in the User Guide. Note: DO NOT load the sample data. Instead, import your items and clients from Quickbooks.
- To Export timer data from A&E Tracker to QuickBooks:
- Export a Timer Lists file from Quickbooks for import into A&E Tracker.
- Click Export in the A&E Tracker window. [The first time you do this, before you've entered records, you'll first import from your Quickbooks file - that makes sure that all your items will be exportable later.]
- Select QB Timer Format.
- Click Export in the Export dialog.
- When prompted to Import a Timer Lists file, Click Import Now
- Browse to your IIF file. Click Open. The IIF file will be read and stored by A&E Tracker.
- Create some real A&E Tracker records with your new lists of Clients, etc.
- To text Exporting from AE Tracker to Quickbooks
- Delete any sample or incomplete records
- Click Export and then All Records (or select a specific client)
- Click Export at the bottom to create your IIF file.
- Import that export file into Quickbooks and follow the familiar prompts.

| Once you have performed a successful Import of you Quickbooks Timer file, here's how you make a record and export it. First, click New (new timer record) and make it Blank (not a previous client). | ![]() |
| Next, pick one of your clients. In this case, there was only one to choose from. NOTE: in the Workgroups version, you can create clients directly from A&E Tracker; in the basic version, you need to import them. | ![]() |

The next prompt is for "Project". I personally do not use "projects" since I tend to have one project per client (web designs) and so I only have one listed. |

Here are some Items (Activities) which were imported with the IIF file. Game Face Web Design (my company) specializes in Drupal Development. so I'm picking that one. |

| Here is the "worker" name imported with the Quickbooks file. |

| Having verified that all data was successfully imported into A&E Tracker from Quickbooks (because the clients, projects, and activities were all there), I have added some timer records and am now ready for my first REAL export back into Quickbooks. |

|
Note that we are selecting all clients, all projects, but a specific start and end period. That is part of my weekly workflow. The "Choose" button opens to a calendar interface. Finally, it is important to check "QuickBooks Timer Format". |
|
|
Selecting all clients creates a file which is called "all_aet_clients_[date].IIF"; Otherwise, if you chose to export only on eclient, the client you selected will be named in the file. |

| Here is the file created, which will import seamlessly into Quickbooks. |
